Holly’s Best of 2016
Another year of media consumed and in a year of generally terrible things it is nice to look at what was good during this year. This year was difficult because with GeekBaby it can be difficult to find the time and we are slowly figuring it out. The lack of time that we have does mean that we are more particular about what we consume, which can make it hard to decide what was the best for this year. Now the other issue is the fact that for these it is not about whether it was released this year, but whether we consumed it this year. So without further adieu here are my best of 2016
I am pretty sure that if I had seen Rogue One that I will probably consider that the best movie of 2016 for me, but we will have to wait until I see the movie. Instead the surprise hit for me this year was Magnificent Seven. The cast and story were absolutely amazing.
New TV Show
There were some good tv shows that came out this year, but by far the best was Stranger Things. Netflix has been hitting it out of the park lately with their shows and this was no exception. Stranger Things has great 80’s references and is amazing science fiction.
Returning TV Show
For returning shows we do not have too much and some of the stuff has not been great, but the one that I think I am most looking forward to is Supergirl. I love the actress playing Kara and I love seeing a superhero who is just so hopeful and optimistic compared to what has been going on with the other shows.
This year I did not read as many books as I wanted to this year, but the best book I read this year is Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. I have not read a ton of autobiographies, but just in general it was laugh out loud hilarious.
So I read a few comics this year, but my favorite was deifinitely Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. It is such a great comic. It looks at good and evil and the main character is a changeling with a complicated past. Noelle Stevenson knows how to tell a great story.
The album of the year for me is Twenty One Pilots Blurryface. This album is absolutely amazing and it is one that I can listen to over and over again. The beats, the rhythms and everything just hits you as you listen to it.
Unfortunately this year I have not played a ton of video games, but my favorite has probably been ReCore. I love the big expansive long form games, but at the same time it is so great to get back to something a little bit simpler. Even though it is a platformer it adds enough new elements that it really brings a fresh take, not to mention that the story is amazing.
