My Own Gaming Hell: Saving Daughters
Good day, everyone! Let me tell you about my own little Groundhog Day of pain. Much like Bill Murray being unable to save the poor homeless man in the film, I seem utterly incapable of succeeding in rescue missions involving NPCs’ daughters when I play games lately.
First off, the original Fallout. I know, this is, like, the second big quest in the game, but every single time I try making a move on rescuing Tandi from the Khans, they end up killing her. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if my copy of the game is glitching, or what. I just know that it’s kind of a big deal for me to complete this quest, not because the game will end if I don’t, but because per the official lore, this woman goes on to become the founder of the New California Republic later in life. The world sort of needs that.
Next, Planescape: Torment, another beautiful Black Isle classic. I’m pretty far along in my playthrough, though I’ve been further, but I can’t remember how to get past this one mission and it’s bugging the crap out of me because of the similarities with the one from Fallout. Basically, I must confront a bunch of guards and rescue Barse’s daughter, Jasilya. This is also sort of big deal because game progression follows the completion of this one. I don’t know if I’m too low level to handle the battle on this go-round, but the guards keep beating my ass into the ground.
What do you all think, dear readers? I know several of you have likely played both games, though not necessarily recently. Can any of you offer me some advice on what I should do? Until then, I’ll keep trying and consulting not entirely helpful (and strangely elitist) game walkthroughs online. Thank you all for reading. Please feel free to list your own greatest gaming frustrations in the comments below!
*Please note: Above images do not reflect my own characters or playthroughs. Also, I’ve never finished either of these classics, but not for lack of trying.
